Hi Parents!

We introduced the children to our new Wiki today. They know exactly how to find it on our blog (in the blog roll section on the right) and they know their passwords. They are very excited about it and we think it’s going to change how we do things in 2A. We can’t see wait to see where the children lead us with this! We have video here of the children working in the Tech lab exploring the new site. As you will see, they are really in to it! We also have video of our quick 10 minute free choice today. Ever wonder what your child chooses to do during his/her Free Choice time? We have a quick little sample here. We sure do miss our blogger, Allison. Let’s all send positive thoughts her way and hope that she comes back tomorrow (you, too, Caroline!). Enjoy the videos and enjoy this great weather we’re having!!!!

Peace,

Dana and Becky

March 8, 2010

Hi! Here’s Allison, our blogger,  telling us about the day on Monday. Unfortunately, she was absent today, so no blog entry today. We did, however, include some video of Alice and Evan using their lungs to blow bubbles in painty water. We used those bubbles to paint paper to look like our lungs. These lungs were added to the bodies the children have been building upon each time we learn about a new system or organ. We’ll be showcasing those soon, so keep your eyes peeled! Enjoy the foggy evening!

Peace,

Dana and Becky

March 5, 2010

Well, we had a very busy week in 2A. We learned about the brain and the heart and Madeleine made a very cool observation: It’s called the circulatory system because the blood basically goes around in a big circle through your body. How cool is that?

We are still working on our Magical Creature stories and hope to finish up some time next week for a Publication Celebration by Friday. Then we will begin working on writing a class report on the Human Body.

Next week we will begin discussing the lungs and the immune system. We will hopefully get a visit from Nurse Egan as well.

Below is video of Caroline discussing our Human Body unit and the second video is of the children being very quiet. Can you tell what they are doing? Watch and see, then discuss with your child. We had so much fun!

Have a great weekend!

Peace,

Dana and Becky

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We had a lot of fun celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday today. We read the 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins and then balanced as many hats on our heads as we could while walking a line. We graphed the results. Then we read Green Eggs and Ham with our buddies and enjoyed some Green Eggs and bacon. Finally, we visited Bartholomew again and read Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Well, then we just had to make Oobleck. The day ended with a thorough cleaning of the room and green smoothies (to look like Oobleck) and cupcakes from Ms. Tomer (our visiting student-teacher from NLU). Enjoy the video we made of the kids!

The Brain!!!

Today we are learning about the brain and the nervous system. After reading some information about the brain, the children added noodle brains to their bodies (ask your child) and joined Ms. Crawford in some experiments. Below is a video of Caroline explaining one of our experiments.

Enjoy!

Daily News from 2A

HI! The kids worked hard in Tech class today using Microsoft Word and their typing skills to type up today’s blog entry. The question asked was, “What have you been working on in 2A?”

Davis: We haev been reading the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. And we have been tracing our bodies. In Gym, we have been practicing doing the Walk-a-thon.

Kayla: What we have been doing in second grade is Bones. So, now we know about Bones. We are reading the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We already have finished the Star of the Week.

Evan: I like when we studied Simple Machines because we did a lot of cool experiments. And I also like the Human Body because I think it is very interesting. I would like to study American Idol. I love 2nd Grade.

Hello! I am Madeleine in 2A. We haev been learing about our bodies. But really our bones. And Mrs. O’Brien brought in some x-rays. Before we were studying simple machines. We tested out each one. Before that we studied immigration and built immigration stuff. That’s it – bye-bye.

We are studying bones. Anyway, my name is HENRY! I’m in second grade. I learned that cells live in your bones.

Domingo: We learned about simple machines. I like the inclined plane.

Hello, blog readers! Hi, I’m Ryan and I’m in 2nd Grade!!! (The best place on Earth!!!!) We are studying the body. It’s pretty cool!!!!! Bye bye!

Hello, people on Earth! I’m Erin and I’m in 2nd Grade. We have been studying simple machines. I liked it when we made butter. Candy rules!!

Cate: We are learning about the human body, this is what we know. When we are born, we have 300 bones in our body. Our ear has a bone – that bone is a semi circular canal. Our bones are living things that look hard but inside there are blood cells. In those bones there are white ones and red ones. We’re also learning about the Olympics. The 5 rings are for the 5 continents; there are not 5 continents! But no people live in Antarctica, so they did not count that. But there are 6 continents left so they put North America and South America together so it counts as the Americans – so there are 5 rings. What I like abou tschool is we learn new exciting things and I hope we can study about pets.

Gavin: We are studying human body. Your ear has three bones in it. We are also studying the Olympics in our class. I hope we study dogs.

Alice: We are learning about Human Body. This is what we learned; we learned that when you are born you have 300 bones and when you’re a grown up, you have 206 bones. I like when we traced our bodies. I would like to learn about rocks.

Allison: We are studying the Human Body. We are studying the Olympics. I want to study hamsters. I am enjoying doing a play in music.

Mrs. O’Brien: Tomorrow is our Walk/Swim-a-thon. We hope to see you all there! The money we raise will go to Doctors Without Borders. The children have been working hard and have high expectations. We can’t wait to cheer everybody on! See you all tomorrow!

Peace,

Dana and Becky
